From West Virginia to Texas, We’re Watching: Potential THC Ban

We’ve been watching what’s happening in Texas — and like many of you, we’re frustrated. Disheartened. But not surprised.

Lt. Governor Dan Patrick recently released a statement claiming that THC is “killing adults and children” and “ruining minds forever.” And in the same breath, he’s backing a sweeping ban on all hemp-derived THC products — the very same kinds of formulations that have helped thousands of people sleep better, manage pain, reduce anxiety, and find balance in their lives.

Here in West Virginia, we run a small, seed-to-sale cannabis business built on education, transparency, and intention. So, when someone with that kind of political power spreads misinformation under the guise of “public safety,” we have to say something.

Let’s Talk About What’s Actually Killing People

Here’s what they won’t say out loud:

  • Alcohol kills over 140,000 Americans every year

  • It’s linked to liver disease, domestic violence, addiction, and impaired driving

  • It’s legal, heavily marketed, and politically protected

Meanwhile, hemp-derived THC — the kind used in our Moon Brews, gummies, and wellness products — has never caused a fatal overdose. Not once. Not ever. But it has helped people get off sleeping pills, manage PTSD, and support their nervous systems in a natural, gentle way.

And while Lt. Governor Patrick claims to be protecting families, he’s accepted over $700,000 in campaign donations from alcohol distributors — including one of the biggest in the nation, Silver Eagle Beverages, led by John L. Nau III, a major political donor.

You can’t say you’re fighting for health while your campaigns are being funded by the industry doing the most harm

Let’s Be Clear — This Isn’t “Us vs. Booze”

Now, we’re not saying "f*** the alcohol industry" or that we’re anti-beer. We love a good craft brewsky as much as the next person. This isn’t about choosing one over the other.

What we are calling out is the hypocrisy of demonizing plant medicine while being funded by the very industry causing the most harm. You can’t criminalize cannabis on moral grounds while turning a blind eye to alcohol’s very real toll on families, health, and communities, especially when that industry is writing your checks.

The Real Reason for the Potential THC Ban:

What’s happening in Texas isn’t just about THC. It’s about control.

It’s about keeping healing in the hands of the powerful, instead of letting it belong to the people. It’s about protecting profits, not protecting families.

And it’s also about us — small businesses, farmers, herbalists, educators, and creatives — who are doing this differently. We're not trying to dominate markets. We're trying to care for people. We're not selling hype — we're offering a new (actually old) way of connecting to the body.

But at the heart of this?

It’s about you — a fully autonomous human being, living on a spinning rock in the middle of the universe — being told you can’t choose what kind of medicine works for your own body.

That’s what this is really about. CHOICE. The right to rest, to heal, to explore, to feel good — on your own terms.

And that’s something no politician, no donor, no outdated law should get to take away.

What We’re Really Fighting For

This potential ban in Texas is a warning shot. It’s a reminder that no matter how many lives are changed by plant medicine, some people will always try to criminalize what they can’t control.

But we’re not going anywhere.

At Moon Flower, we’ll keep:

  • Educating our community about how cannabinoids actually work in the body

  • Fighting for responsible access to hemp-derived THC

  • Standing up for the growers, the makers, and the customers who deserve better

Because this industry isn’t just about getting high. It’s about reclaiming how we heal. And that’s something we’ll always protect.

To Our Community: Stay Rooted

No matter what state you’re in — Texas, West Virginia, or anywhere in between — if you believe in this plant, you’re not alone.

We're with you. And we’re not backing down.

💥 If you’re in Texas — or know someone who is — now’s the time to speak up.Senate Bill 3 (SB3) is a sweeping ban on hemp-derived THC products. It’s passed the House and Senate and now sits on Governor Abbott’s desk.

This bill threatens thousands of small businesses and tens of thousands of jobs. It criminalizes wellness. It turns healing into a crime. And it must be stopped.

This affects all of us — no matter where we live. Let’s show up for Texas like we’d want people to show up for us.
